COST: $0 - 120 - $240
To be eligible for IV iron infusions I need to see recent bloodwork (taken with in the last 4 weeks)
You can either do this through your GP or Nurse practitioner or through me (billed privately). See below.
I need to see the following (costs if billed privately through my clinic):
Iron panel and CBC (about $120).
Liver & Kidney Panels, Electrolytes. (about $120).
COST: $180
TIME: 45 minutes
Because... safety first.
Before you are eligible for IV iron therapy we need to have a consult so I can understand the full history and your goals with iron infusion therapy.
We'll review your blood work and do any relevant physical exams (blood pressure for example). If it's warranted and safe to do so, and we have enough time allotted ** we can do the first iron infusion that day or book you back in to begin.
Please come to your appointment fed and hydrated.

I use Venofer (iron sucrose) as it comes with the lowest risk and best safety profile (for a clinic my size).
I recommend weekly infusions for a total of 4 treatments. Each week your IV will contain up to 100 mg of iron.
Your first treatment might be a modified dose, depending on what I learn in your injection consult.
Most see clinical improvements between 3 and 21 days after.
We typically see ferritin increase by 10-15 points for each 100 mg of iron administered (less if anemic).
We will rerun the Iron Panel and CBC approximately 4-5 weeks after your last treatment.
Please come to your appointment fed and hydrated.
Five more reasons why your health plan isn't working out. This is installment two. These came from a list of 100 reasons I wrote in a post a few years back. Recently, I reread the whole list and honestly took a lot of notes. Here's another 5% of the highlights, in no particular order.
Reason number three: you haven't written it down. Studies show you're more likely to reach your goals when you write them down. So write it down. New information also suggests it's even better when you write them down every day, so do that.
Reason number four: You're not keeping it front and center. In addition to writing out your health goals daily, I also suggest that you make a visual representation of your goal. Either with art you make or grab a stock photo and put that image somewhere where you'll see it a lot. Look at it obsessively, like your life depends on it. Which it very well might, because this is your health we're talking about.
Reason number 19: Your goal is arbitrary. Have 15 pounds to lose? Want to be a size 4? These goals don't really have anything to do with anything. They have no meaning. Instead, how about wanting to play with your kids without gasping for air? Or being fit enough to climb a mountain or visit a place you've never been to before?
Reason number 24: You're playing the comparison game. You're on your own journey. Keep your eyes on your own paper. Stay in your lane. This ain't no one's story but yours. You write it. It doesn't matter what anyone else is doing and how well they are doing it. Do well on your own path.
Reason number 29: You're burnt out. Slow down, partner. There's tons of time. Don't make yourself sick trying to make yourself healthy. See how that is completely counterproductive. Health is a marathon, not a sprint.
You know what can help burnout? IV nutrient therapy. Imagine 45 minutes all to yourself to do nothing except put your feet up, receive powerful nutrition right to your cells.
Let's get you nutrified with intravenous IV nutrient Therapy by me, Dr. Tonia Winchester, a Nanaimo Naturopathic Doctor, and certified IV nutrient therapist.
This is all taking place at Knead Therapy in Nanaimo, BC, central Vancouver Island.
