To be eligible for IV iron infusions I need to see recent bloodwork (taken with in the last 4 weeks)
You can either do this through your GP or Nurse practitioner or through me (billed privately). See below.
I need to see the following (costs if billed privately through my clinic):
Iron panel and CBC (about $120).
Liver & Kidney Panels, Electrolytes. (about $120).
COST: $180
TIME: 45 minutes
Because... safety first.
Before you are eligible for IV iron therapy we need to have a consult so I can understand the full history and your goals with iron infusion therapy.
We'll review your blood work and do any relevant physical exams (blood pressure for example). If it's warranted and safe to do so, and we have enough time allotted ** we can do the first iron infusion that day or book you back in to begin.
Please come to your appointment fed and hydrated.

I use Venofer (iron sucrose) as it comes with the lowest risk and best safety profile (for a clinic my size).
I recommend weekly infusions for a total of 4 treatments. Each week your IV will contain up to 100 mg of iron.
Your first treatment might be a modified dose, depending on what I learn in your injection consult.
Most see clinical improvements between 3 and 21 days after.
We typically see ferritin increase by 10-15 points for each 100 mg of iron administered (less if anemic).
We will rerun the Iron Panel and CBC approximately 4-5 weeks after your last treatment.
Please come to your appointment fed and hydrated.
In my 2nd iron infusion for my iron deficiency, I’m going to do the full dose of iron - 100 milligrams, which is the entire vial of iron sucrose.
For a long time, iron was mostly done via IM or intramuscular injection. But it did come with a risk of permanent tattoos because of the color of it. And in the last couple decades, iron infusions have become more popular.
I’m finding the infusion drip through in under 30 minutes which is great because you don’t have to sit for a long time.
I haven’t noticed any discomfort in my arm, and no negative effects so far. I sometimes taste a smokey, mapley flavour as the IV is going.
I felt strong.
I felt like I was recovering well from workouts.
I had two busy nights salsa dancing in a row, and also went on a pretty vigorous hike the next day. And I didn't feel tired or pooped after any of those things.
I felt like my memory was a bit better.
I also feel like my brain function was better.
There was more focus.
I feel like there was a better recall.
My sleep, though, was a bit off, but that could have been the timing point of my cycle. And also that it's summertime and it's a more energetically active time of year.
Because I track my daily weight, I have noticed my weigh’s been up a couple pounds in the last week or so. It could be a marker of that inflammatory connection that I was talking about in the last video - a very acute response to the treatment. I was also testing some new foods so I could have been reacting to them. Also the weight might have been up because the sleep was a little bit down.
All of these factors matter, and, throw in stress, and it's the perfect salad for a little bit of increase!
I'm newly and proudly offering IV iron infusions to the drained, depleted, exhausted folks of Nanaimo and Central Vancouver Island, BC…
So that they can increase their energy, focus, stress tolerance, and immune function, etc…
And keep up with life demands without their health suffering anymore.
